EASTERN UNIVERSITY CHOIR IN CONCERT AT CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH ON MAY 18 AT 7:00 PM

PROVIDENCE, RI – Eastern University, a Christian University of Arts and Sciences, located in St. David’s, PA, will present the TOURING CHOIR and “TURNING POINT” in concert on Thursday, May 18, 2006 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 747 Broad Street, Providence, RI 02907.  The performance will begin at 7:00 p.m.

The Touring choir and “Turning Point” are two of several performing ensembles in the Music Department of Eastern University. The Choir provides opportunities to study and perform traditional choral works from the Renaissance to the contemporary, as well as arrangements of spirituals and hymns.  “Turning Point” ministers as a smaller group through music ranging from the classics through contemporary popular styles.

“Turning Point” maintains a busy weekend concert schedule, performing for area churches and other organizations as well as singing on campus.  The Touring Choir, which includes “Turning Point”, takes an annual tour, presents full concerts each semester on campus, and sings for chapel, graduation, and other college functions.

Director Rick Frost did his undergraduate work at St. Olaf College and has a Master of Arts degree in Choral Music from the University of Iowa.  Nancy Thomas is a graduate of Wheaton College and Villanova University.  In addition to accompanying the choir, she is an instructor in Eastern’s English department.

The concert is free and open to the public.  A free will offering for the choir will be received.
